Going somewhere cool and exciting for the summer, looking for that perfect vacation rental … oh, but you want to take you cat or your favorite dog, after it’s part of who you are and it just wouldn’t be right or fair to leave them behind. Well, it is true as they say in the vacation rental business, no two places are alike and often attempting to compare them is hard to do and if you try to judge by price you will often get your feelings hurt.

Perhaps you have seen that TV commercial where a couple goes away for the summer on their Honeymoon to a beach paradise and finds a place for half the price, then they look out the window and the view is not of the beach, but rather a grave yard, where two guys are busy burying a body? Funny huh, well not if that happens to you, which is the point of the commercial. Now back to the subject of taking Fluffy or your dog Bear?

Most vacation rentals do not allow animals or pets, but some do, many times the ones that do are rather scruffy properties, run down and of course, the rental agency or owners do not care if you take your pet, because the place is already trashed, smells and no one else would be willing to shell out that kind of money for the summer with such a dismal appearance, see the problem?

One vacation rental I went to for the summer with my dog, Bear, yes that is his real name, was great, it had everything I wanted and the back yard was basically the Redwood Forest with trails starting literally from there. I talked to another vacation renter there for the summer at the local coffee shop with a far worse story, she brought her dog too, and the vacation rental she got was also a dog, we laughed and I said what should we name it; Scruffy!

If your travel companion happens to have fur, or walk on four paws instead of feet, then you will probably need to locate a few pet friendly hotels for your travels. Most hotels will not allow you to bring your four legged friend in for a nights stay, so its important to call ahead to any hotel you plan on staying in to make sure that except pets as well as people.

You can find pet friendly hotels in almost any area, and at almost any price range. Pet friendly hotels are typically just like your normal hotels. You can visit a bed and breakfast, or a spa; all with your cat or dog right there beside you. Since pet friendly hotels are a rarity, the will often book up a little quicker than other similar hotels will. For that reason it’s important to call ahead and book your room early if you know you will be traveling with your pet, and be in need of accommodations. Particularly if you are traveling to a cat or dog show in a particular area, the rooms will book up exceptionally quickly in a pet friendly hotel, so you will want to be sure to secure yours before they are all gone.

In many pet friendly hotels the hotel will set aside certain rooms of the hotel specifically for use by pet owners. By setting aside a room specifically for pet owners, they allow other hotel guest to be able to spend their stay in the hotel in a room free from pet dander, as well as the hassle of running into, or hearing other people’s pets. For dogs, many pet friendly hotels will sometimes have a special place for you to take your dog outside to relieve him or herself, occasionally the better pet friendly hotels will have some sort of dog park or recreation area as well where you dog can have the opportunity to get some exercise and socialize with the other dogs who are also staying in the hotel.

Hotels that are not only pet friendly, but also those that have the pets in mind with things such as recreation areas and pet friendly dining are usually some of the best to take your pet to. In these situations you pet is often invited to do everything that you are in the hotel, and the hotel sometimes s will offer addition activities for the pets as well, such as a dog day camp that can allow you to go out on the town and have fun, while leaving your dog behind having fun as well.

In most cases be prepared to pay a little extra for your pet to stay in the hotel along with you. While pet friendly hotels do allow pets, most require some sort of supplement for the privilege of having your pet stay along with you in the same room. The supplement is usually not as expensive as having another person stay along with you, but it can get a little expensive depending on the hotel that you select.

Before traveling to any pet friendly hotel do your research. Talk to friends who also travel with their pets that have gone to the area and visit a hotel that they particularly enjoyed. Your friends are often your best resource in locating the very best places to visit. If you know you are traveling to a certain location and want to stay in a particular hotel then book your room as advance as you can. In most cases the earlier you book your room the less expensive it will be, and the better your chances of getting the room and location that you want. Booking your hotel room late or at the last minute could mean that all of the pet friendly hotels are booked up, and you will have to leave your pet at home.

If your family isn’t complete without its most important member—your pet—you may want to consider taking him or her along with you on your next vacation. Pet friendly hotels are available for exactly this purposed and are great for families who don’t want to leave Sparky behind or singles who feel more secure with Fido in tow.

When looking for a pet friendly hotel, remember that you may have to pay extra in order to bring your pet, even at pet friendly hotels. If your pet causes any damage, you are usually liable for replacing the ruined items, and some hotels have very strict policies that pets cannot be left behind during the day, even in a cage. Therefore, be sure that taking your pet is the right thing to do. Remember that he or she will want to be a part of everything during the vacation, so if you are going camping or to the beach, this could work out great. However, a pet may not be as good of an idea if you are traveling to the city or plan to do a lot of activities where a pet would not be allowed, like go to museums or the theatre.

If you do decide to leave your pet at home, make sure that he or she will be in good hands while you are gone. If you have a family member who loves pets and who’s house your pet has visited, perhaps this family member can pet-sit. Another option is to ask a friend or neighbour to watch your house while you are away and to spend some time with your pet in this familiar environment every day, as well as feed and walk him or her. A third option is to pay to have a kennel keep your pet while you are away.

Of course, the best option, if possible, is to have your pet by your side so that he or she is not lonely and does not feel abandoned if you go on vacation without him or her. Pet friendly hotels can help both you and your furry friend enjoy a fun and relaxing trip away from home.

Many people cannot imagine placing their pets in a kennel while they are on vacation. The thought of their beloved pet cooped up while they are on vacation is just unimaginable. Most people consider their pet as part of the family, therefore their pet goes with them on vacation. If you have decided to take your pet with you on vacation, then there are things you need to consider, the first would be finding a pet friendly hotel.

Making Your Reservation

When making your travel plans, check with the reservation clerk at the hotel to verify that they do accept pets. You should also indicate the breed of your dog, as some hotels have restrictions on the size and breed. You should also ask about any additional costs or deposits that may be necessary if you bring your pet. Another question would be if you were allowed to leave your pet unattended in the room. The bottom line is to be sure you understand the hotel’s pet policy so there is no misunderstanding when you get there.

Packing For Your Pet

For your pet’s sense of security, pack your pet’s favorite toy and food. Just like packing for yourself, pack any medications or vitamins that your pet may be taking. In addition, be sure to have your pet’s vetrinary phone number on hand just in case there is an emergency.

Pet Identification.

Emphatically you would not leave home without any identification neither should your pet. Your pet’s identification tag should have the pets name, contact number, and immunization tag if applicable. Never let your pet out of your sight, tying them up outside while you shop inside could be detrimental for you and your pet. Someone could steal your pet, or even antagonize your pet to the point that they may bite.

Consider a Transportable Kennel

A portable kennel for your pet will offer a comfortable and secure place for your pet while you are out. In addition, it will eliminate any mischievous behavior and possible damages to the room. A portable kennel will put your mind at rest knowing your pet is safe and so is the hotel room.

Research Your Vacation Locale

Many attractions are pet friendly. Research your vacation area for these pet friendly tourist sites either online or through the local chamber of commerce. It is worth your while to know what attractions in the area allow pets before you travel.

It is easier than you think to find Pet friendly hotels and pet friendly motels when traveling with your pets. Although many hotel establishments still don’t allow pets of any kind in their rooms, there are many that do. Most of the time there will be no extra charge for accommodating your family pet, but sometimes you will be asked to pay a small fee usually ranging anywhere from 5 dollars to 50 dollars. Pet hotels and pet friendly motels are extremely convenient for travelers who do not want to go through the hassle of leaving their pet to the care of friends, family or expensive boarding businesses.

When making the reservations you should indicate the breed of your dog, as some hotels have restrictions on the size and type. Another question to ask, would be if you were allowed to leave your pet unattended in the room. Be sure you understand the hotel’s pet policy so there is no misunderstanding when you get there. If you know the policies both you and your pet will be comfortable.

When you reserve a room at pet friendly hotels or motels, always ask what the policies are regarding pets, and whether there is a deposit. All hotel and motel pet friendly establishments will allow seeing-eye or service dogs no matter what their pet policies are.

Sometimes you can be charged a small fee, and other times you may be charged a deposit, which would be returned to you if your pet causes no damage. If you hate leaving your pets at a boarding shelter while you are traveling, take some time to find pet friendly hotels or motels along your route so that your beloved family pet members can stay with you.

Some pet hotels will require that you keep the animal in a cage in your room, and most dog friendly hotels insist that your canine is kept on a leash at all times when it is outside of your room. Most people consider their pet as part of the family, therefore their pet goes with them on vacation. The thought of their beloved pet cooped up while they are on vacation is just unfathomable.

In addition to the refundable pet fee some pet friendly places may mention that they only allow “Well-behaved” pets, so teach your pet a few lessons in manners before you decide to take it on your holiday. The luxury hotels like the Ritz Carlton and Onyx will treat your pet like a king. Your pet will be groomed and pampered just like you will be. So, go ahead and enjoy a lovely vacation with your family pet.

Try to keep to your pets schedule as faithfully as possible. Pack the pet’s favorite food and toys so he will feel comfortable. Just like packing for yourself, pack any medications or vitamins that your pet will need. Be sure to have your pet’s veterinary’s number on hand just in case there is an emergency. If you are in another town, your vet maybe able to recommend the services of a vet in the town you are visiting.

Make sure you have the pet’s identification which includes a contact number, the pets name and an immunization tag if applicable. Never leave your pet outside alone. He could be stolen or antagonized enough that he will bite. Always keep the pet hydrated, especially if you are in a hot atmosphere.

Use common sense when traveling with a pet. And, above all, be polite regarding other guests at the establishment.

If you are taking your dog with you on the plane, then please read these vital tips, how to make no or less damage to your dog as possible when flying.

Before you confirm your ticket, call or ask the airline company’s policy about transport dog crates, and what’s their policy regarding dog transportation. Most airline companies have different policies, and choose the right one for you, and your dog.

Walk your dog before the flight, make sure your dog does all her nature needs before the flight, even if the flight will not take more than 1 hour.

Make sure that the airport’s and plane’s staff know that you are with your dog, and that your dog is flying in the cargo compartment.

If you have a puppy, or a small dog, it would be wonderful if you could take your dog with you in the plane, well most of the airline companies allow you to take small dogs, and puppies with you in the passenger compartment, if you have a special transport dog crate or a pet carrier.

Before flying make sure your dog meets all the medical requirements for international flights.

Let the staff knows where is the water for your dog, while flying humans and other live organisms dehydrate faster than normally, so it is very important that your dog gets all the hydration she needs.

Before the take off, stay with your dog as long as possible, your dog will be stressed, if it’s possible then stay with the dog till you go trough the gate.
